FEI encourages all research professionals to challenge the barriers separating connections between researchers and communities. If you share our frustration that such connections are undervalued, we suggest you consider:
Exploring whether the journals for which you write or review has a policy on recognizing and publishing community-engaged research;
Emphasizing community-engaged research in your own work and the reviews you provide of scholarship and faculty; and
Reaching out to the communities you study--or that are affected by your field of research--to understand their perspectives, ensure that they have access to research, and to get involved to improve the research enterprise.
